Started in 2002 by Grant Knowles and Peter Blasdale, Grio is an 8 piece ensemble playing the dance rhythms of Western Africa.
This colourful dance band plays the traditional djembe`s, dun duns, cow bells, shakers, marimba and whistles with an exciting texture of polyrhythm’s.
Based in beautiful Golden bay Grio have performed locally and at the Wild Foods festival in Hokitika. Just as at home in the street or on the large festival stage Grio interacts with the audience to create a fun, energetic atmosphere guaranteed to bring out the bounce in people.
