DRUM MAKING

All the drum making that i do is started with a chainsaw

when the logs are selected I am loking for a true hardwood with

a diamater of about 250mm +

Usually the logs are easy to find as I live in an area that is still close

to forests both native and exotic these give me the choices of

many woods although there are some better than others that I do hunt for

here are some pictures of the chainsaw at work carving out the inside

This should not

be done by anyone with no previous chainsaw skills as it is very dangerous and

many experts will tell you that the way I use a chainsaw is the worst ever

and most likely to recive serious injuries

to date i havnt had an injury but full focus is always most important

here are some othe photos of the drum making ....

one of my favroite parts in the drum making process is the carving where i can be creative as every drum is an empty canvas awaiting pattern when you buy a drum from me i can try to carve what you want into the drum to personalise it for you of if you prefer you can do it yourself

here are a couple of shots of me carving a drum

This next drum I built for someone,

I had great fun in carving such a beautiful drum

Here is a wine barrel that I turned into a drum

With the help of Mike McCrossins down in Westport who did the steel work

...and here I am skinning up a drum
